Tree Trimming in Huntsville, AL
Pruning large mature trees and tall pines — roof and driveway clearance, deadwood removal, and crown reduction for safety. Paired with removals when that's the right call.
Pruning Big Trees the Right Way
Most of our trimming work is on the same kinds of trees we remove — tall pines and mature hardwoods. Bad pruning (especially topping) can ruin a tree or set it up to fail in the next storm. Every cut is made at the branch collar, weight is kept balanced, and we never remove more than about 25% of live crown in one visit.
What We Trim
- Clearance pruning — limbs off roofs, gutters, driveways, and pools
- Deadwooding — large dead limbs pulled before they fall on their own
- Crown reduction — bringing an oversized tree down in height without topping it
- Storm-proofing thinning — reducing wind load on tall pines and wide oaks
- Power line clearance — utility-adjacent work, coordinated with the utility when needed
When to Prune in North Alabama
For most hardwoods — hickory, sweetgum, pecan, maple — late winter (January through early March) is the best window. The tree is dormant and the structure is easy to read with no leaves. Dead limbs can safely come off any time of year.
What Trimming Costs in Huntsville
We Never Top Trees
"Topping" — cutting a tree back to stubs — causes decay, weak regrowth, and eventual failure. If you want a tree smaller, ask us about proper crown reduction. If it's too big to reduce safely, removal is usually the better answer.
